I Knew
© by Sue Kugler

I miss being married
I didn’t mind all the groceries I carried
Or answering the phone
I liked not being alone
Making a home

Making dinner for two
Saying “I love you”
But things started to get strange
I tried to rearrange
My feelings
But my mind was reeling

The more I tried
The more you lied
So the more I cried
I could tell you weren’t satisfied

Someone was stealing you
And there was nothing I could do
So I said I was leaving
And you asked, “When?”
It was then

I knew
We were through
