The Thought of Home
© by Aaron Cornett

Rain painted highways and
Fog strewn walkways
Remind the weary mind
Of the long struggle
For home.

Thoughts of family
Move randomly, playfully
Along with the unseen breeze,
Unfurling with each step,
Each heartbeat,
Like the king’s banner raised high,
Painting the ancient sky.

I grabbed the tail
Of this moment,
Refusing its passage
Into the nothingness
Of missed opportunity

And let it settle in my mind,
Dance slowly with my soul,
And cleave my gentle heart.

I breathe easy, knowing
A love is born.
