Into the Night
by Paul Beveridge
Into the night
And once again
The fearful journey from boys to men
Too young to know better
Too young to die
And yet they never question why
Too wise to ponder
Too weary to try
Obedient enough to know when to die
The letters sent
Moistened by mothers tears
Fuelled by all the very worst fears
The path home they can't remember
And as a result
Missed by all for ever and ever.
